Back to school carcharo

Project Exploration is closing out the summer (and prepping for school)  by getting out and about with a special toothy friend!

Join me, scientists and Project Exploration students in a little hands-on exploration and discovery as you help us recreate the life-sized skull of Africa’s Answer to T-rex! Learn about the expedition that unearthed the six-foot-long skull of the 90-million-year-old Carcharodontosaurus from an actual expedition team member (ME!) and hear from Project Exploration students what THEIR experiences were like during fossil-hunting expeditions this summer. University of Chicago Fossil Lab folks will be on hand to help you get a feel for fossil preparation and reconstruction.

On Saturday, August 15th we’ll join 20th Ward Alderman (and science lover!) Willie B. Cochran at the 3rd Annual Back to School Picnic in Washington Park. Visit us from 10am-2pm. Click for a FLYER about the Back to School Picnic. (You can also read the 20th Ward press release about the event.)

On Friday, August 21 come see us at Millennium Park. We’ll be helping Science Chicago close out a terrific year with the final LAB FEST. Join us from 11am-3pm. Click for a MAP of the Science Chicago festivities.

“Bone up” on our featured creature before these events with some online resources:

  • Project Exploration’s fact sheet about Carcharodontosaurus.
  • The press release announcing the original discovery

See you there! (Don’t forget your camera!)
