Students at Providence Saint Mel arrived for their second week of the program and hit the ground running. This week at the After School Matters program Environmental Adventures, students learned about natural competition by crushing candies in the Clamys sweetus lab, researching mate competition in birds and bees, and practiced the principles of predator/prey relationships by building a food web.

“I always thought it was a food chain, the food web is a much more confusing…..thing, but it’s cool to see how everything is connected!” said one student.

Students also learned how food reaches humans. From the animals and farms, to the factories, then the stores.

“After learning so much I want to be a vegetarian; I wont, but I want to” After a week of learning students relaxed Thursday the 14th by cleaning up Garfield Park and turning their finds into art.
