Hi, Everyone! My name is Sandra Munoz, and I am the STEM Facilitator for the Environmental Adventurers this summer (July 5- August 10) . This is my first summer working with Project Exploration, and I am very excited to be on the team! I graduated this May from the University of Illinois in Chicago with a Bachelor degree in Biology. During my time at UIC, I was a student worker at the African-American Cultural Center. I decided to join the STEM team because I wanted to be able to introduce young people to the amazing world that is the environmental sciences. As a woman of color in science, I know how difficult it can be to feel like you belong, and, by joining PE, I want to be able to make young girls feel like they can achieve whatever they set their mind to. My favorite part about being a STEM facilitator is being able to interact with young people and show them how fun science can be while also helping them explore different career paths in the sciences. I plan on learning how to be a better teacher and listener from working with young people during this program.
