Chicago launches STEM Signing Day 2018
Like signing days for athletes, the inaugural Chicago STEM Signing Day will celebrate high school seniors from across the Chicagoland area as they make their commitments to some of the country’s top technical schools, colleges, and universities. These students will be applying their talents in pursuit of careers in STEM fields that will place them on the fast track to success and prepare them for careers in technical fields like those in the aerospace and telecommunications industries. STEM Signing Day will be an opportunity for the City of Chicago to highlight talented Chicago Public School high school seniors and promote a STEM workforce for our City.
Boeing Great Lakes-Chicago Region and Motorola Solutions Foundation Lead the Effort
Boeing Great Lakes/Chicago Region and Motorola Solutions Foundation are pleased to announce Chicago’s inaugural STEM Signing Day for Chicago Public Students! Signing days traditionally have been opportunities to celebrate athletes, but this year Boeing and Motorola will honor high school seniors from across our city as they make their commitment to attend either a two or four-year college or university and pursue a STEM degree or program. Students are recognized for applying their talents in pursuit of careers in STEM fields.
Project Exploratio Supports STEM Signing Day
Project Exploration took the lead to power STEM Signing Day. Students completed a short application that allowed them to share what motivated them to seek a STEM-related career. The process included providing their college/university acceptance notification. Project Exploration shared widely and pushed through the Chicago STEM Pathways Cooperative members along with Chicago Public School departments to help disseminate the online application to eligible students. 183 students from across the City completed the application. A team of applicant reviewers poured through the applications and identified 50 students.
