Fossil lab internship

Between hearing about Dr. Sereno’s work, Sara ElShafie’s project, and spending a day working on your own project, I have learned about the research process.

It takes time. There are many things one must uncover on a topic. I have learned that one is constantly finding out new things about a subject. Giving the information to the public may be difficult at times as the public may deny it. The amount of time that the research project may take will require plenty of patience. A surprising part of the research process is when you think you know almost everything about the subject, you or another individual discovers a whole new part of that subject.

The past week, we (the fossil lab interns) met up with Dr. Paul Sereno and it was really exciting. One of the key moments was when Dr. Paul Sereno described science as “creative thinking and adventure with a purpose.” This was a good description. If I was faced with the question, “What is science?,” my answer would be: “Science is a form of seeking the truth through the past and resent and even the future.”

In the lab, I have also learned  how to use a grinder. It takes plenty of patience and carefulness while maintaining the ability of being fun.

My name is Bola Osundairo. A young male that currently attends Lake View high school as a senior. I love playing different sports such as: soccer; football; basketball etc. I am interning at Dr. Paul Sereno’s fossil lab that is located at the University of Chicago. This opportunity was given to me through Project Exploration a non-profit organization. I have visited the fossil lab twice and it is an amazing place. There are multiple fossils in the fossil lab that are quite new but really old and are quickly gaining popularity. Today was a good day.
