Blog-A-Palooza: Workshop Introduces PE Student Leaders to the Blog World

Last Thursday, June 29th, was an exciting day for Project Exploration and its new team of summer bloggers. Led by Erik Vecchione, Project Exploration’s Senior Manager of Marketing and Technology, the blog training was held for PE leaders at John Crerar Library. During this event the students learned the basics of creating and updating a blog. These five standout students will continue to update on the Project Exploration blog throughout the summer to reflect on their experiences and discoveries in the lab, field, as well as the classroom. Says new Fossil Lab intern Jehad Broderick, “I’m very grateful for this chance to learn new skills.”

During the training session, the students learned the basics of creating a blog through WordPress, adding hyperlinks, videos, and pictures, blog uses, ways to increase readership, as well as basic online copyright regulations. The students had fun exploring the world of blogging and honing their creative writing skills by creating individual profiles on the web site.

As our world becomes more technology and social media-oriented, it is important for our students to be equipped with the basic skills to communicate with others and generate ideas online.

This training session gave our PE standout students the tools they need to document their discoveries this summer and share them with others. We can’t wait to read their future posts, and we hope you can’t either!
