Brothers and Sisters4Science Discover the Universe with KICP Scientists!
Project Exploration’s amazing Brothers4Science and Sisters4Science have been busy this year discovering and working alongside scientists! Driven by their curiosity, the programs have provided students with opportunities to delve into bullfrog dissections, cricket behavior, computer technology, forensic science, and lots of other interesting subjects! One topic of interest to both the young women and men was astronomy and cosmology. Baxter and AWIS Scientists Participate in an Outreach Workshop with Project Exploration!
On Friday, March 16, Project Exploration presented an exciting daylong workshop on educational outreach at Baxter Healthcare in Deerfield, Illinois. The workshop emerged from a partnership with the Chicago chapter of the Association for the Women in Science (AWIS) and was generously funded by the Pearson Foundation.

Project Exploration launches Brothers4Science!
Building off of our successful services for girls programs (Sisters4Science, All Girls Expedition, and Girl’s Health and Science Day), Project Exploration is excited to introduce its newest program—Brothers4Science! With the support of the University of Chicago’s Neighborhood Schools Program, this exciting new program is being piloted in three south side schools—Ariel Academy, Mollison Elementary, and Till Elementary. In short: Girls like and believe they can do STEM – but they want and need more opportunities to get involved and know what’s out there.

Outdoor Leadership Adventure – 2012!
On Friday, February 3rd a group of Sisters4Science ladies embarked on an adventure to push their comfort zones, meet new people, and develop leadership skills. The Annual Outdoor Leadership Retreat left the city en route to Wisconsin with ten young women from Reavis Elementary and Perspectives Charter School – Rodney D. Joslin. At first, the Sisters saw each other as strangers, but the bus ride back home after the weekend was one of a united group, laughing and making sure to keep in touch.

Project Exploration Presents at National Conference on Girls’ Education!
I just returned from the first National Conference on Girls’ Education in Washington DC, hosted by the National Coalition of Girls’ Schools. The conference was an opportunity for organizations—particularly public charter and private schools—to share practices and raise issues that are relevant to educating and nurturing young women today. Engaging girls in STEM pursuits and building leadership skills were among the main themes of the conference.
