Each month the White House convenes groups monthly as “Champions for Change” – a chance for a diverse cross-section of stakeholders to come together with policy makers and talk about what the issues are, what’s working – and where we need to go from here.

Project Exploration Students interviewed by Free Spirit Media

Free Spirit Media is a Chicago nonprofit that provides education, access, and opportunity in media production to underserved urban youth. Teens in the program develop, write, film, and produce their own news stories. Their next broadcast provides an in-depth look at Project Exploration’s programs, including this year’s Junior Paleontologists, All Girls Expedition, and Fossil Lab Interns.

The broadcast aired on CAN-TV on August 27 and is currenty feaatured on the ABC7 Chicago website.

Just recently, I’ve had the chance to observe and sit in at the All Girls Expedition Program classrooms, where the participating girls prepared for their big Send-Off to Yellowstone National Park. The week of July 11th, all worked hard on preparing projects that dealt with three particular areas of study that will aid the girls when they visit the beauties of Yellowstone. Members prepared presentations in Human History, Wildlife and Geology, aspects that are all of great importance to the girls’ Yellowstone experience.

Girls show off their knowledge of Yellowstone at All Girls Expedition Send-Off

We’re halfway through the season and our summer programs are going strong! This Monday, our All Girls Expedition participants left for a week in Yellowstone National Park, where they will see wildlife and natural features such as bison, waterfalls, and the colorful Grand Prismatic Spring. After spending a week in the classroom learning about the history and science of Yellowstone, the girls were eager to see the park for themselves. We look forward to hearing about their adventures in the wild! In the mean time, we got to hear what they’ve learned so far when they presented to an audience of parents and family at Friday night’s All Girls Expedition Send-Off. Continue reading

All Girls Expedition 2010 Yellowstone Trip Highlights

Bison, yellow-bellied marmots, grizzlies, elk, and American black bears....just some of the amazing wildlife that the All Girls Expedition team witnessed in America's first national park - Yellowstone! We just returned from the field and have many exciting stories about our experiences and adventures out West. Each year, nine middle and high school students are selected from Chicago public schools to join the All Girls Expedition team. Throughout the two-week program, students work with scientists and become experts on the various organisms living within the park. Continue reading
