WE WON THE CHICAGO MARATHON |
||
|
With 42% of the votes (more than 600,000) we
overwhelmed the competition. Votes came in from far and wide - almost
every state in the US as well as overseas, including Germany, Denmark,
Japan, France, Mexico, Brazil, the Netherlands, and Great Britain, to
name a few!
PAUL RAN AN AMAZING RACE OF 3 HOURS, 16 MINUTES AND TWO SECONDS! It was his first competitive race and after nearly six months of intense training, he was thrilled. Not only did he come in with a very respectable time, but he also came in third of the "celebrity challenge pool." Paul's time, in addition to his percentage of the online vote, gave him the best rank of the celebrities! Thanks to Paul's awesome effort and your on-line voting, the Chicago Marathon will award $7,500 to Project Exploration to build the new dinosaur!!!! |

DINORUN
fundraisers really made tracks!
We've already received more than $6,300 (well beyond our goal of $5000) - and checks are still arriving! More than 3/4 of the monies was raised by enthusiastic students! This is really a dinosaur build by kids' interests. Curie High School and Smyser School were amongst the schools that really spread the word and raised big bucks for the new dinosaur. Two schools stood out in particular.
Both Barrington Middle School and Kenwood Academy will receive a cast of the jaw of the new dinosaur in a display case! They will be the only schools in the world to have this incredible and important scientific specimen! Everyone is now waiting to learn the name of the new dinosaur. Not long now: We will be announcing the name and the scientific significance in mid-November at National Geographic Headquarters. Watch for the story! In addition, CSNBC will air the National Geographic Explorer Documentary on November 14, 1999 8:00pm CTS. We're delighted that this dinosaur (as well as a juvenile of the species and a carnivore from the same area and time period) will be on display FOR FREE starting January 14, 2000 at Navy Pier's Crystal Gardens. This exhibit, "Dinosaur Giants" will showcase enormous skeletons - and include a tribute to all of the people who helped build the dinosaur. After completing the Chicago Marathon, Paul said "I couldn't have done it without knowing you were all cheering me on." Together we made it happen! THANK YOU !!! Read about Paul's Run for the Bones
