The 1997 Expedition to Niger, West Africa took months of careful planning. On August 11th, the team packed 20,000 pounds of equipment, supplies and dehydrated food into a 40-foot long cargo container. A truck took the container to Newark, New Jersey, where is was loaded onto a ship bound for South Hampton, England.

The team met the shipment in England and repacked it into five Land Rover trucks and two trailers. The trucks were driven into new containers and put on another ship --- this one bound for Accra, Ghana.
The fishing villiage of Cape Coast, Ghana, sits in the shadow of El Mina castle - one of the oldest points of slave exportation in Africa

On September 15th the team met up with the trucks and the cargo and drove 915 miles north --- through Ghana and Burkina Faso --- to Niger and the main dinosaur site, "Fako."

The one-way, three-continent journey for team and cargo: 8,553 miles.
