What will happen to the bones after the expedition is over?

The bones are on loan from Niger. Professional preparators, graduate students and volunteers at a laboratory at the University of Chicago will open the jackets, clean the sediment off of the bones and repair broken and fragile pieces.

After the bones are cleaned they will be studied and described in scientific articles. Illustrations will be made of them and in some cases a plastic cast --- an exact model of the bone --- will be made. We might even create mounted skeletons from the casts.

Eventually all of the original bones will be returned to the paleontology collection at the National Museum of Niamey in Niger.
