Project Exploration Background:Project Exploration is an innovator in the field of youth science in out-of-school time, seizing after-school, weekend, and summer opportunities to engage young people’s sense of wonder and curiosity.  Project Exploration works to ensure communities traditionally overlooked by science—particularly minority youth and girls—have access to personalized experiences with science and scientists.  In its first decade, thousands of students have experienced immersive, relationship-based programming, doing real science with real scientists.  In 2009, Project Exploration received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Mentoring.  Earlier this year, an independent 10-year research study validated Project Exploration’s model, demonstrating that students in our programs have higher interest in science in out-of-school settings and are inspired to reach for new levels of academic and career achievement. This summer, Project Exploration was named one of the two best STEM summer learning programs in the country by the National Summer Learning Association.
