Illinois Field Work
To prepare the Junior Paleontologists for South Dakota, we spent one full day in the field in Illinois before the expedition.  Under the guidance of Illinois State University geologist William Shields, we traveled to Bailey’s Quarry and Mattheissen State Park.  The team collected 300-million-year-old invertebrate fossils, walked through caves, and even stood behind a waterfall!

Please wait for each photo to load, the photo slideshow will start automatically after the first image has downloaded.
