Every summer, Project Exploration immerses minority Chicago Public School students between grades eight and twelve into the world of paleontology, field work in the American West, and the excitement of scientific discovery.  Students are not chosen based on grades and academic ability, but rather for their passion, curiosity, and drive to succeed.

The JP program begins in Chicago with a two-week training in anatomy, geology, and paleontology. After the two weeks are complete, they travel on an expedition to the fossil-rich badlands of the American West. The summer immersion launches a long-term relationship between students and Project Exploration (PE).  PE continues to support JPs with academic workshops, internships, and leadership opportunities throughout their high school careers.  As the JPs say, “Once a JP, always a JP.”
