ABOUT THE JUNIOR PALEONTOLOGIST PROGRAM

Junior Paleontologists 2008
Photo M. Brown
Students watch as an avian anatomy researcher works on a small bird at The Field Museum.

The Junior Paleontologist program immerses minority youth and girls in a world of scientific discovery and opportunity. The program begins with an intensive two-week training in anatomy, geology, and paleontology. The students then head off to explore South Dakota in search of fossils. This summer experience launches a long-term relationship between the students and Project Exploration. The students are supported with ongoing annual activities—college-prep workshops, internships, and leadership opportunities that encourage students to graduate high school, attend college, and consider a career in science.
