Project Exploration Receives Planning Grant from The Chicago Community Trust

The Chicago Community Trust has awarded Project Exploration a grant of $20,000 in support of planning activities for a Teaching & Learning Center—a living classroom that will bring all of Project Exploration’s proven science education methods under one roof. The Teaching & Learning Center will involve people with curious minds directly in scientific discovery by inviting them to interact with hands-on exhibits, public science labs, and working scientists.

Gabrielle Lyon, Project Exploration’s co-founder and executive director said, “The Chicago Community Trust’s grant is a real affirmation of our work to date—and our plans for the future. We’re extremely excited about partnering with a nationally-recognized leader in philanthropy and a leader in the city’s civic community. The Trust’s grant will have a direct impact on our next steps towards the Teaching & Learning Center and the capacity of our organization. We are thrilled to have the Trust’s support.”

Since 1915, The Chicago Community Trust has helped hundreds of Chicago-area individuals, businesses, and families manage their charitable giving. The region’s largest community foundation is a union of donations and bequests from many sources. Income from endowments of more than $1 billion supports the arts, community development, education, health, and the essential needs of food and shelter.

Project Exploration is grateful to have such a distinguished and committed partner in its effort to make science accessible to the public—especially city kids and girls
