ON ASSIGNMENT:

This experience has been great for me, and I feel so special to be able to go and be with more than one person who cares for you and who can relate to how you live. I thank God that I was chosen.  And to be called a delegate was very cool to me because I felt like I served a purpose, and I think that’s great.

While I was in Washington, D.C., I saw a lot of differently shaped buildings – some square, circle, triangle, rectangle, and some that I don’t even know the name of, but it was nice because each of the buildings had their own unique spice to it.

When my team and I arrived at the National Air and Space Museum, I was very surprised because I had never heard about it and never knew there was so much about planes and jets for them to have their own museum.

The restaurants were so unique and the food was really good, but my favorite was the restaurant that [delegate leaders] Elena and Kristin took us to as a surprise, because the pizza was so different.

There was jerk pizza, shrimp pizza, chicken pizza, and many more. It was something that I’d never seen before, and it filled me up.

The hotel was great and clean.  There were fresh cookies you smelled when you walked through the doors of the hotel, and the people were so nice, they treated you like their own.

To complete my experience was the new dinosaur.  The press conference was the best; it was so new and made me feel like I’d never felt before because this dinosaur, which I would be one of the first to see and know about, had a unique look and shape that made me look twice.  The press conference made me feel so special because when all the cameras and important people were there, it made me feel important, especially when they told us to stand and all eyes were on us.  That completed my experience.

REFLECTIONS OF A DELEGATE

What are your goals for yourself during this unveiling?
On this delegation, I would like to achieve a lot. The goal I would like to achieve is to be somewhere that I’m new to, have a great time seeing and experiencing new things, and be around a group of new people.

I told my friend that I was going to the unveiling of a new dinosaur species and she asked, “Why should I care?” What should I tell her?
I would tell my friend that you should care because it is good to know the things that happened in the past. Even though you might not know anything about the dinosaur, you should probably find out about it so that you can grow to like it.

I would also explain to my friend that this is something you don’t hear about every day. It can be fun to experience something new, kind of like what I’m doing, and I’m having a great time learning. It can also be fun to see how science is around us and this relates to science a lot.

I used to think…But now I know…
First I thought that this dinosaur was small with a little body, but now I know that it’s pretty big and is a great species that I’ve learned about.  I also thought that I wouldn’t learn a lot from this short experience, but now it’s like I know a lot, and I can answer questions from anyone.  I loved this experience.
