Advanced Astronaut Training Camp Topic(s): Space Science
Challenger Learning Center - St. Louis
Ferguson, MO Grade(s): 6 to 8
Experience an out-of-this-world summer camp with simulated space missions, underwater training and other far-out space science activities. Participants will experience what it would be like to train as a real NASA astronaut. Activities will include mental and physical challenges as well as design competitions. In addition, advanced astronauts will learn basic scuba-diving skills that will enable them to participate in a one-day underwater astronaut-training program. Scuba training and gear are included (note: scuba participants must be at least 10 and medically fit to dive).

Animal Explorers Summer Camp Topic(s): Zoology
Lincoln Park Zoo
Chicago, IL Grade(s): 6 to 8
Discover the amazing animal world with Lincoln Park Zoo and The Anti-Cruelty Society with the Great Lakes Region of Roots and Shoots of the Jane Goodall Institute through this intimate and intensive camp experience. They will spend five hours a day (Monday-Friday) in the program.
Eligibility Requirements: Students ages 10 to 14 are eligible.

Archaeology Field Experience Topic(s): Archeology
Mississippi Valley Archaeology Center
La Crosse, WI Grade(s): 12+, 9 to 10, 11 to 12
Students will explore what it is like on an actual archaeological excavation, working alongside professional archaeologists in the field. They will participate in small-scale excavations (test units) and survey work. Lab work may include washing ceramics, stone tools and other remains, and sorting them into basic categories. An experimental archaeology component may explore making stone tools and pottery. Optional lab hours and local field trips will be available after regular field-school hours. Supervised dorm facilities are available at an additional cost of $155 for three days. Scholarships may be available based on interest in archaeology, financial need and grade point average.
Eligibility Requirements: This experience is open to high-school students through adults. No previous experience is necessary.

Astro Science Workshop (ASW) Topic(s): Astronomy
Adler Planetarium
Chicago, IL Grade(s): 9 to 10, 11 to 12
The ASW began 40 years ago during the space-race with the goal of encouraging young minds to pursue careers in science. This is a challenging program for students who have demonstrated exceptional interest and aptitude in astronomy and related science. Students work hands-on with telescopes and real data, and will contribute to our knowledge of the solar system. They will spend seven hours a day (Monday-Friday) in the program.
Eligibility Requirements: Students entering grades 10 or 11 who have completed one year of algebra are eligible. Students with exceptional interest and ability in astronomy and related sciences are encouraged to apply.
